Hotel Restaurant Walliser Sonne is located at the edge of the small village of Gluringen ( ca 150 inhabitants) in the rural eastern Valais, with direct access to fields, mountains, woods and hiking paths. Every room has a beautiful mountain view. This friendly family-run hotel was opened by a Dutch family and features a sauna with a relaxation room, ski storage, and a sports room. Enjoy your breakfast on your sunny balcony or the garden terrace. Have dinner in winter sitting around the fireplaces or enjoy your drink on a couch across the old pizza oven. Gluringen and the region Obergoms offer various sport and leisure activities in all seasons. Hiking, mountain biking, horse tracking, paragliding, wild water rafting, cross-country skiing, winter hiking, downhill skiing and snowboarding. The hotel is situated along a downhill skiing slope with a ski lift and a ski school. More advanced skiers go with easy accessible local transport to Fiesch – Riederalp – Bettmeralp (99 km slopes), Bellwald (20 km slopes), and the famous Aletsch Gletscher Area. A ten minutes walk and there is access to 100 km of well prepared cross country ‘loipes’. The village has a railway station, from where the `Matterhorn-Gotthard Bahnen` will bring you to Brig, Andermatt and further. The region is a paradise for cyclists, (motor)bikers and car drivers who want to ride and drive over the alpine passes Furka, Grimsel, Gotthard and the less known but beautiful Nuefenen. The Italian part of Switzerland is very close (just cross the Nuefenen Pass 15 km eastwards) as is Italy: cross the other magnificent pass westwards: Simplon). Tailor-made routes for all kinds of transportation, from hiking to motor biking will be prepared on demand.
