The unique landscape at the foot of the Grimsel, Furka and Nufenen passes make this high, sunlit valley in the Canton of Valais a very special holiday destination. In winter and summer alike, Obergoms is a peaceful oasis for relaxed holidays with plenty of sport on offer.
The summer is all about relaxation and regeneration. The walking trails – some at high-altitude – the mountain-bike trails, the golf course, the diverse gastronomic delights and the refreshingly cold mountain tarns of the Goms region provide an immaculate backdrop in this picturesque and unspoilt region of Switzerland.
In summer those who enjoy exploring on foot will find more than 700 km of waymarked trails over mountains, glaciers and high alpine passes. And for those who favour a less strenuous approach, there are gentler valley trails. In fact there's everything that the keen walker could desire. In addition to the three classic routes – the Goms High Trail, the Forest Trail and the Rotten Trail – there is an extensive network of trails that lead enthusiastic hikers into this magnificent mountain world. (Incidentally, the "Rotten" is what the young Rhone is called in Obergoms!) Mountain tarns, rushing streams and bracing springs offer cooling refreshment during a hike, while a visit to the Kneipp Trail in Blitzingen will give a boost to the most jaded metabolism. Other themed paths include the ever-popular Cäsar Ritz trail in Niederwald and the Nature Trail in Gletsch. Nordic walkers will find exactly what they're looking for in the Swiss Nordic Park, 10 paths of varying difficulty between Lax, Fiesch and Oberwald. The paths connect with the Rotten Trail and invite walkers to enjoy nature in its infinite variety.
There is a 38 km long cycle path from Oberwald to Grengiols, ideal for families who want to explore the region by bike; FLYER bikes are also available. Special MTB paths lead the enthusiastic biker up into the high mountains. And river rafting on the young Rhone or a hike across the Rhone glacier can definitely deliver a thrill or two. Or why not practise your swing at the driving range of the «Source du Rhône» golf course in Obergesteln. Keen golfers can put their skills to the test at this unique and wonderfully natural 9-hole course. Another highlight is athrilling ride on a vintage steam train on the Furka mountain run, a quite extraordinary experience for young and old alike. And those who really want to aim really high can paraglideon the bright pristine air.
